What happens in Vegas...is a good time in a city with an identity unlike any other! Where night and day can blend together like a never ending blur of lights, sounds, magic, and excitement. It’s a city where you can rub elbows with celebrities at the casinos, get married by Elvis, see once-in-a-lifetime shows, and visit replicas of New York, Paris, and a giant erupting volcano all in the same day! This city doesn’t sleep and neither will you.
At ground zero of the insanity is the Vegas Strip, home to such renowned landmarks as Caesar’s Palace, the Egyptian themed Luxor, the Mirage, Four Seasons, Bellagio, and the elegant Venetian. Treasure Island will cause you to risk your booty trying to land the big bucks while themed hotels like New York, Paris, Orleans, Circus Circus, and Monte Carlo will make you wonder if you’re still actually in Vegas. If you’re unsure where to start or where to go, take the time to get to the top of Stratosphere, an enormous tower overlooking the north end of the strip, which provides a beautiful view at night. Each of these places has their own casino tailored to their themes. But don’t feel intimidated, the workers there are friendly and happy to help you out to learn a new game. Or taking in one of the free Gaming Classes at the Las Vegas Hilton (inquire the hotel on times).
Looking to get away from the casinos? Something that doesn’t cause you to lighten your wallet? Get outside and take in the famed Bellagio Fountains in front of the Bellagio Hotel which does a show every half hour until midnight (and best of all, it’s free!). Or catch the Volcano Eruption at the Mirage which erupts every 15 minutes. Head on down to The Fremont Street Experience. An energetic free light and sound show with over 12 million lights and is one of the most entertaining things to see for free on the Strip. Each show lasts 10 minutes and appears on the ceiling covering ten different Casinos on Fremont Street. Or watch pirates duel it on a massive pirate ship in front of the Treasure Island Hotel once every 90 minutes.
You’ll find thrills amid all of these distractions that would rival any others in the world such as Big Shot at the Stratosphere tower. It’s a ride that launches you 160 feet straight up in 2.5 seconds flat, experience near weightlessness then free fall back to the launch pad...all atop of a tower overlooking the Strip! If that’s not high enough for you, head out to Las Vegas Sky Diving and drop 10,000 feet over the city. Still not high enough? Las Vegas Space Flights takes up you up in a specially designing Boeing 727 to replicate the zero gravity of space.
And then there’s the shows. Between Cirque de Soliel, David Copperfield, Chris Angel, Blue Man Group, Barry Manilow, Cher, Cats, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Cheech and Chong, Bill Cosby...just to name a small sampling...you’d be amiss to pass up any of them while in town.
After you win big (or set aside some money), go hit the Shoppes at the Palazzo or the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian. These two indoor malls are interconnected by a walkway and provide many luxury options you’d expect to see of a city like Vegas. Or many explore the multileveled Forum Shops at Caesars. Or for a truly unique shopping experience, visit the architecturally amazing Crystals at CityCenter (the home of Wolfgang Puck’s Brasserie). Maybe try to land a deal at the Las Vegas Outlet Center. Or get your exercise walking the 1.2 mile shopping complex of the Miracle Mile Shops.
Most casinos will give you free drinks and cigars but at some point, you’ll need to stop and recharge. Vegas has it’s own share of high-end restaurants (Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House, Spago, and Chinois) as well as many great cheap eats (Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, Grand Lux Café, and Mr Lucky’s 24/7 for family fare). Take the time to eat before you forget.
Las Vegas combines worldly entertainment, extravagant displays, and top of the line attractions in an oasis in the middle of the desert. Be sure to look below to pick one the Best hotels you want to stay in, and start making a list of the things you want to do!
